About Doc Silver
The Doc received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Howard University in 74'. Since then he has balanced his professional career while performing at various venues . During those years he continued to educate himself with various styles & guitarists. His guitar solos were influenced by George Benson , Lee Retinour , Charley Christian and modern gypsy guitarist Stochelo Rosenberg. It was listening to Ella Fitzgerald scat that stirred his desire to develop his own scat solos along with his guitar licks. After 38 plus years Doc Silver winds down his healthcare career, picks up his axe and soulful voice, to rerecord the popular R&B Rascal’s song ,”Groovin” and Bobby Eli's 70's R&B hit "Love Won't Let Me Wait". In an ambient smooth Jazz style, the Doc showcases his George Benson style vocal/guitar scat solos. When asked why he chose these songs, he replied, “these updated carefree versions are just the right medicine, a timeout, from this calamitous world”. Groovin features 22 year old talented , Aaron Quaterman, Jr from Philadelphia on Tenor sax . Aaron’s melodic phrasing , and free flowing licks are a large contribution to “Groovin’s” smooth Jazz texture. Doc Silver surrounds himself with genius music engineer and bassist, Ruben Edwards , otherwise known as "the magic man". Ruben arranged, engineered and produced "Love Won't Let me Wait as well as played the bass line giving Doc Silver's version, "Love Won't Let Me Wait", the intimate retro 70's soulfull sound . Lynn Riley ,veteran jazz alto sax recording artist and adjunct Music Professor at Drexel University, weaved in her melodious and fluid alto sax solos on "Love Won't Let Me Wait".
In 1993, while studying music theory with international recording guitarist Gene Terramani , Doc Silver wrote three instrumental fusion songs for Gene's CD entitled "Hotel Eden". Glen Friedman, Ceo , "Music Umbrella" was able to secure Doc's songs as soundtrack music for "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous". The songs "Breaking Through" and "City Nights" featured renown Jazz Tenor Sax player extraordinaire , Tom Scott . This episode in Doc's life was the catalyst to pursue his interest in performing both as a vocalist and guitarist . In the past year , Doc Silver teamed up with young and precocious sax player Aaron Quarterman to experiment with songs by the late great Grover Washington . One of Grover Washington's hallmark songs, Winelight has been just uploaded . Winelight was written for basketball legend , the great Dr J .The updated arrangement includes Aaron fluid solos and George Benson vocal scat solos performed by Doc Silver.
